10th Congress of Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League Opens

The 10th Congress of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League opened in the capital city of Pyongyang of the DPRK on April 27.

The Congress is to comprehensively analyze and review in depth the youth league work during the period under review, to take practical measures for bringing about a fundamental turn in its work and to discuss tasks and ways for the youth league organizations and youths to thoroughly carry out the decisions made at the 8th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK.

It introduced that the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un was presented with silk banners by the Central Standing Committee of the Korean Youth League in Japan and the Association of Young Korean Nationals in China on the occasion of the 10th Congress of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League.

It was attended by the representatives who were elected at the youth league organizations at all levels.

Present there as observers were officials of Party and armed forces organs and officials in the sector of education of youths and schoolchildren.

The platform was taken by Ri Il Hwan, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Kim Jae Ryong, department director of the WPK Central Committee, Kwon Yong Jin, director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People’s Army, who are members of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee; members of the executive committee of the central committee of the youth league, chairpersons of the provincial youth league committees, exemplary officials and members of the youth league, officials in charge of work with youths in the armed forces organs and soldiers.

The Congress approved the following agenda items:

  1. Review of the work of the Central Committee of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League
  2. Review of the work of the Central Auditing Commission of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League
  3. On renaming the youth league
  4. On revising the rules of the youth league
  5. Election of the central leadership organ of the youth league

Pak Chol Min, chairman of the central committee of the youth league, made a report on the first agenda item.

The reporter said that the Congress is convened amid the great trust of Kim Jong Un who sets the youth work as the important work related to the future of the Party, the state and the Korean-style socialism as well as the eternal strategic line of the revolution.

He noted that for the past five years since the 9th Congress of the youth league, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un has energetically led the youth league to develop into the eternal youth league of the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as required by the new era of the Juche revolution, and to demonstrate its might as the advance force and wing of the WPK.

He said that the achievements made in the youth league work are entirely the bright fruition of the great leadership provided by the General Secretary who set the youth issue as a vital issue decisive of the destinies of the Party and the revolution and led the youth league work step by step with much effort.

He emphasized that the youth league faces an honourable task to fully demonstrate the militant power as the successors to and reserves of the WPK in the general advance for carrying out the great fighting programme set forth at the 8th Congress of the WPK and the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK.

He underscored the need to take substantial measures for overcoming mistakes latent in the youth league work in order to creditably fulfil its mission and duty before the times and the revolution. He cited the facts to analyze and review the mistakes the youth league organizations have made during the period under review by failing to push forward the work of enhancing fighting efficiency of the youth organizations in every way in light of their natural duty as the organizations providing ideological education.

He called on the youth league organizations at all levels to hold fast to the important tasks set forth by the General Secretary at the 8th Congress of the WPK as the immortal guidelines for effecting a fundamental turn in the youth league work and turn out in implementing them.

He said that they should give top priority to holding the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in the highest esteem forever as the sun of Juche and devotedly defending the absolute authority of the Party Central Committee and carry on the work thoroughly.

He stressed the need to channel great efforts into building up the primary organizations of the youth league and steadily enhancing their function and role.

He underlined the need for the organizations of the youth league to prepare schoolchildren to be competent, talented revolutionaries and young revolutionaries, knowlegeable, virtuous and healthy who will carry forward the baton of the Juche revolution.

He noted that the youth league officials should become the locomotives leading the young people to always advance straight ahead following the Party as the reliable successors to the revolution, bearing deep in mind that success in the youth work depends entirely on them.

He said that the youth league organizations should wage a revolutionary ideological offensive, aggressive defence and intensified struggle to wipe out the anti-socialist and non-socialist practices and establish the socialist way of life.

He stressed the need for the youth league organizations to inspire young people to create new standards and records and renew them in the struggle for carrying out the new five-year plan.

Noting that only victory and glory are in store for the youth league and the youth as they are led by Kim Jong Un, he ardently called on all the young people to make vigorous efforts to achieve a new victory of the socialist cause and the revolutionary cause of Juche.

Kim Chung Song, representative of the youth league organizations of the Korean People’s Army, Pak Myong Jin and Paek Hak Ryong, representatives of the youth league organizations of Pyongyang Municipality, and Han In Chol, representative of the youth league organizations of the High-Speed Youth Shock Brigade, took the floor.
