The project of Hwangju-Kindung Waterway, a large-scale irrigation system, was successfully completed.

Hundreds of kilometres of gravity-fed waterway have been built for the irrigation of farmland in Hwangju and Yonthan counties of North Hwanghae Province, the major granaries of the country, thus bringing about a progress in the irrigation of agriculture and opening up a bright prospect for the sustainable and stable development of agricultural production.

Its inaugural ceremony took place on the spot on December 12.

Present there were Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and premier of the Cabinet, O Su Yong, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Ri Chol Man, department director of the WPK Central Committee, Ju Chol Gyu, vice-premier of the Cabinet and chairman of the Agricultural Commission, Pak Chang Ho, chief secretary of the North Hwanghae Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Son Il, chairman of the provincial people’s committee, Pak Myong Son, chairman of the provincial rural economy committee, commanding officers and shock brigade members of the waterway construction division, officials and working people in the province.

O Su Yong conveyed a letter of thanks of the WPK Central Committee to all the builders who had performed shining labour feats in the construction project.

In the letter the WPK Central Committee extended warm thanks to all the waterway builders for having laid a precious foundation for realizing a substantial change in the development of agriculture by completing the difficult and huge nature-harnessing project in a short span of time and for having defended the Party’s agricultural policy and people-first politics in practice.

The letter said that the waterway builders, who had kicked off the project by conducting 100 000-cubic-metre blasting three years ago, waged a 24-7 campaign of loyalty, thus performing distinguished labour feats of carrying it out two years earlier than scheduled.

The WPK Central Committee in the letter highly appreciated the fact that all the commanding officers and shock brigade members of the waterway construction division had clearly demonstrated through the project the spirit and strength of the state dynamically advancing against harsh ordeals and fully displayed the revolutionary mettle and matchless fighting power peculiar to the Korean people who implement the Party’s decision and instructions absolutely and unconditionally.

The Premier of the Cabinet delivered an inaugural address, to be followed by other speeches.

After the ceremony, the participants went round various places of the completed waterway.
