Nation Celebrates 80th Birth Anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il in Splendour

The whole country celebrated the 80th anniversary of the birth of Chairman Kim Jong Il as the greatest national holiday.

Visitors to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the supreme temple of Juche where President Kim Il Sung and the Chairman are preserved in their lifetime appearance, made bows to the large portraits of the great leaders.

Working people and service personnel paid high tribute to the great leaders at their statues and beaming images on Mansu Hill in Pyongyang, the City of Samjiyon and other parts of the country.

Lots of people visited the Korean National Art Museum, Okryu Exhibition Hall, Korean Stamp Exhibition Hall and Industrial Design Exhibition Hall, the venues of the national art exhibition, national sketch and calligraphy festival, stamp exhibition and industrial design exhibition.

Many children across the country joined the Korean Children’s Union with the pledge to fully prepare themselves as the true sons and daughters of the socialist country and competent talents who are knowledgeable, morally impeccable and physically strong.

Colourful performances were given at theatres in Pyongyang and the provinces.

Snow and ice sculptures were displayed in a distinctive way in the City of Samjiyon.

There was a demonstration of radio-controlled model planes by players of the South Hamgyong Provincial Aviation Club amid the interest of working people, youth and schoolchildren.

Catering service facilities in Pyongyang and local areas served various dishes to diners.

Laughter of people reverberated through such cultural recreation facilities in the capital city as the Central Zoo, Natural History Museum, Munsu Water Park and Mirim Riding Club.

There were a women’s football game between the April 25 and Amnokgang teams at Kim Il Sung Stadium and a men’s soccer match between Hwaeppul and Sonbong teams at the Sosan Football Stadium in Pyongyang.

There were also a demonstration of members of the instructors’ corps and players of the Taekwon-Do team of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, male and female team sparring and other matches at the Taekwon-Do Hall.

The holiday got more exciting for the evening entertainments of youth and students and working people and firework displays given in Pyongyang and provincial capitals.
