Paektusan Prize Games Opens

The Paektusan Prize Games in celebration of the Day of the Shining Star (February 16, birth anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il) was opened at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street on February 3.
The participants will compete in football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and other events in Pyongyang, Samjiyon, Phyongsong and Sariwon cities and other places.
Present at the ceremony were Vice-chairman Ri Tu Song of the National Sports Guidance Committee who is department director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Minister Kim Il Guk of Physical Culture and Sports, officials concerned and sportspersons.
Kim Song Ryong, vice-premier of the Cabinet, delivered an opening address.
After the ceremony, there was a march-past of players to be followed by a men’s 3×3 basketball match between the April 25 Sports Club and the Amnokgang Sports Club.
