National Floricultural Show Opens

[nggallery id=37]A national floricultural show was opened with due ceremony at the April 15 Children’s Flower Garden on Friday. The show, an annual event from this year, is of great significance in developing the nation’s floriculture and providing the people with better conditions for cultural and emotional life.

Displayed in the show are more than 20 000 potted flowers of over 200 species and flower shrubs presented by at least 60 units in Pyongyang and local areas. They include the Ministry of Urban Management, Pyongyang Horticultural Guidance Bureau and General Bureau of Pleasure Grounds, ministries and national institutions.

Also on display are exhibits showing various methods of decoration by use of flowers and flower shrubs including floral baskets, hedges and plant sculptures.

Present at the opening ceremony were Vice-Premier Kim In Sik, Chairman of the Pyongyang City People’s Committee Cha Hui Rim, officials concerned, officials in the fields of urban management and gardening from across the country, horticultural experts and flower lovers.

Hwang Hak Won, minister of Urban Management, said in his opening speech that the show would offer a significant occasion in swapping achievements and experience gained in cultivating, using and disseminating flowers in the past period, solving scientific and technical issues and thus increasing the social concern for flowers and making a socialist cultural and emotional life prevail throughout the country.

The show will last till Sept. 18.
