International Marathon Marks Day of Sun

The 28th Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon took place here on Sunday with due ceremony at Kim Il Sung Stadium to mark the Day of the Sun, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

Players from the DPRK, Rwanda, Morocco, Kenya, Ethiopia and Ukraine competed in marathon, half marathon and 10km race.

At least 1 100 marathon amateurs from over 50 countries and regions including the Netherlands, Germany, the U.S., China, Canada, France, the UK, Australia, Japan and Taipei of China also took part in the contest.

Among those present at the ceremony was officials concerned, sportspersons, Pyongyangites and foreign guests.

Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, in his opening speech hoped that all players and amateurs would register high records in the contest.

Then the marathon took place.

Sbaai Youssef (male player of Morocco) and Ayantu Dakebo Hailemaryam (female player of Ethiopia)

Ri Pok Ryol (male player of DPRK) and Kim Hye Gyong (female player of DPRK)

The results of the half marathon:

Ales Debeljak (male player of Slovenia) and female player of Hong Kong, China

Dover Thomas Anthony David (male player of Australia and Jeanette (female player of Singapore)

Tomasz Luczynski (male player of Poland) and Puchala Ewelina Marta (female player of Poland)

There took place the closing ceremony at the end of the marathon.
