For Health of Working People

“Several years have passed since I received medical service from an outreach team of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital. Thanks to the devoted efforts of its medical workers, I have been able to be honoured as an innovator in good health up to now.” said Paek Chong Ran, 54, a worker of assortment workshop of the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Silk Mill.

While working in the workshop several years ago, she was told that an outreach team of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital came to the factory.

She had a medical examination there together with her colleagues. To her surprise, she was diagnosed as having breast tumour.

She was immediately sent to the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital. Thanks to the timely, successful operation, she regained her health.

Every year, the outreach team renders medical services at the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Silk Mill, Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill and other factories and socialist construction sites where women work.

This year alone, it conducted medical checkup and treatment at major fields of the national economy and construction sites, including the Chollima Steel Complex and Namhung Youth Chemical Complex.

The outreach team, staffed with competent doctors of several specialized departments, takes relevant measures according to the conditions of women workers.

Its members give healthcare knowledge to workers, and make sincere efforts for the recovery of women workers who had surgical operations at their hospital.

Looking at their devoted efforts, many say that the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital has moved to their factory.

Kim Sun Hui, a medical worker of the outreach team, said: I feel pride and self-respect in working as a health worker whenever I see the people who enjoy various medical services not only in everyday life but in the hospital under the benefits of free medical care.

It is a commonplace in the DPRK to see such outreach teams organized for the protection and promotion of working people’s health.
